Smart Textiles for Medical & Healthcare

Embroidered Electronic Solutions — Sensing, Stimulation & Monitoring

Medical Smart Textiles for Healthcare, Diagnostics & Therapy

Our medical smart textiles bring reliable, gel-free monitoring and treatment into soft, wearable garments – from neonatal care to rehabilitation and pain therapy. Embroidered textile electrodes, sensors, and heating elements are validated for clinical performance and engineered for series production.

Application Opportunities

Neonatal & Infant Care

Gentle, Continuous Monitoring for the Smallest Patients

Premature infants need continuous vital monitoring, but adhesive gel electrodes irritate fragile skin and add nursing workload. Our medical smart textile electrodes are embroidered directly into the garment, minimising skin irritation and reducing nursing intervention during long-term stays.

Key Benefits:

  • Minimally invasive — no adhesives on fragile infant skin
  • Reduced skin irritation and nursing workload
  • Electrodes embroidered directly into soft wraps and hammocks
  • Suitable for continuous NICU monitoring
  • Machine-washable, reusable textile platform for hygienic clinical use
  • Flexible across garment formats — wraps, caps, onesies, and mats
  • Lightweight and non-restrictive, supporting natural movement and comfort

Heating Textiles & Thermotherapy

Localized, Drug-Free Warmth — Embroidered Into the Garment

Chronic muscle tension, post-operative discomfort, and long-term pain conditions often call for targeted heat therapy — but standalone heating pads are bulky, need constant repositioning, and are separate from the garment a patient already wears. Our embroidered heating elements integrate directly into jackets, belts, and wraps, so warmth becomes part of the textile itself.

Key Benefits:

  • Heating zones and wiring embroidered directly into the garment lining — no separate pad to insert or remove
  • Multiple independent heating zones with adjustable intensity levels (prototype: 3 zones, 3 levels)
  • Powered by a compact, removable USB battery pack — garment itself stays machine-washable
  • Same embroidery platform as our diagnostic electrodes — heating and sensing can be combined in one product

Magnetic Field Therapy

Embroidered Conductive Coils for Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Applications

Embroidered conductive coil structures on the same textile platform used for our heating and sensing applications can also generate pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMF). The manufacturing approach is proven — clinical evidence for magnetic field therapy itself is mixed, so we position this as an early-stage, exploratory application rather than a validated therapeutic claim.

Key Benefits:

  • Embroidered conductive coil geometries integrated directly into the textile — no separate wound-coil modules
  • Same manufacturing platform as our heating and bioelectrode applications, enabling fast technology transfer
  • Technically proven coil structures for pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) delivery

Pressure Care & Decubitus Prophylaxis

Continuous Pressure Monitoring — Before Skin Damage Occurs

Pressure ulcers are one of the most costly and preventable complications in long-term and bedbound care — but by the time skin damage is visible, prevention has already failed. Embroidered textile pressure sensors integrated into mattress covers, cushions, or positioning aids continuously monitor pressure distribution and flag prolonged loading in time to act.

Key Benefits:

  • Embroidered pressure sensor grid integrated directly into mattress covers, cushions, or positioning aids
  • Continuous, real-time pressure distribution mapping — not a periodic manual check
  • Early alerts before prolonged loading causes skin damage
  • Fully washable and durable for continuous daily use — no single-use pads to replace
  • Guided repositioning — app recommends the optimal turn direction based on the detected pressure zone
  • Supports measurably better comfort and clinical outcomes through timely intervention

Cardiac Monitoring & Continuous Care

Long-Term ECG. Multi-Parameter Monitoring. Less Nursing Burden.

Long-term cardiac and multi-parameter monitoring usually means repeated gel electrode changes and skin preparation for patients and nursing staff alike. Ambulatory ECG shirts and chest straps enable continuous heart rate monitoring for long-term hospital and home care, while in the ICU, textile electrodes support multi-parameter monitoring without repeated skin preparation.

Key Benefits:

  • Wearable ECG shirts and chest straps for continuous monitoring
  • EEG headbands for sleep studies, neurological monitoring, or focus assessment
  • Suitable for long-term hospital and home care use
  • Multi-parameter monitoring without repeated skin prep, improving patient comfort during extended stays

Rehabilitation & EMS Therapy

Precise Stimulation. Wash-and-Wear Durability.

Physiotherapy and EMS devices need precise, repeatable electrode placement patients can wear daily — not single-use gel pads. Smarter EMS cuffs, belts, and full garments for physiotherapy and recovery, built for daily wash-and-wear use throughout a treatment programme, eliminating messy gel pads and complex multi-layer builds.

Key Benefits:

  • Precise, repeatable electrode placement for targeted stimulation — custom shapes for different muscle groups
  • Supports physiotherapy, neurorehabilitation and pain management, from single cuffs to full-body EMS garments
  • Dry, washable, and reliable — no gel, fewer assembly steps, lower long-term cost per unit
  • Uses our MOSS dry electrode technology, so devices can combine EMS therapy with ECG/EMG monitoring in one garment

Benefits for Clinics and Practices:

  • Standardised, repeatable electrode placement reduces set-up time per patient session
  • Washable garments reduce consumable costs versus single-use gel electrodes
  • Same platform can combine therapy with objective progress monitoring

Light Therapy & Phototherapy

Photobiomodulation, Delivered Through a Flexible Textile

Red and near-infrared light therapy is used clinically to support wound healing, reduce inflammation, and ease chronic pain; blue light phototherapy is standard care for neonatal jaundice. Conventional light-therapy panels are rigid and immobile. Our embroidery platform integrates LED wiring directly into stretchable, conformable textile structures — proven in demonstrator applications, now being explored for therapeutic light delivery.

Key Benefits:

  • Individually addressable LEDs embroidered directly into the textile — no separate wiring harness
  • Stretchable meander wire structures maintain function up to 150% stretch, conforming to body contours
  • Same textile integration approach usable for red/near-infrared (wound healing) or blue (neonatal jaundice) wavelengths
  • Currently a proven technology capability, not yet a certified medical product — early-stage development opportunity
  • Non-invasive, skin-friendly therapy — no gel, adhesives, or invasive procedures required
  • App-tracked, reproducible light dosing for controlled, repeatable treatment sessions

Microcurrent & Bioelectric Therapy

Beyond Muscle Stimulation — Low-Level Current for Pain, Inflammation & Wound Healing

Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) and bioelectric wound-healing approaches use very low-level electrical current — distinct from EMS/TENS muscle stimulation — to support pain relief, reduce inflammation, and encourage tissue repair. These approaches are typically delivered through adhesive gel-pad electrodes. Our MOSS electrode platform can deliver the same low-level current through a comfortable, washable textile electrode instead.

Key Benefits:

  • Uses our MOSS electrode technology, adapted to microcurrent waveforms
  • No gel pads to replace — washable, reusable textile electrode interface
  • Actively being explored with a customer in animal health — human application is a natural next step
  • Early-stage development opportunity, not yet a certified product for this specific use

MOSS — Embroidered Dry Electrodes

Reliable Signals. Zero Gel. Ready to Wear.

Our proprietary moss-stitch embroidery creates a soft, three-dimensional conductive surface that maintains reliable skin contact without gel, adhesives, or skin preparation — validated against gold-standard reference electrodes in clinical studies.

Key Advantages:

  • No Gel, No Preparation — ready-to-wear, no adhesive or consumables required
  • Multi-Modal Biosignals — one electrode technology for ECG, EMG, EEG and EMS
  • Clinically Validated — comparable to gold-standard electrodes, wash-resistant for 30+ cycles
